Glencoe and Fort William

Glencoe and Fort William

God is present in Glencoe

What a magnificent drive I experienced today. As I left Pitlochry I remembered the advice of Margaret and Alistair (who are friends of Tia's) that I should visit Aberfeldy, so my initial thought was just to go out there for morning tea then come back to Pitlochry in order to go north to Fort William, because that was what Gaby Garmin said, and as you know I always follow Miss Garmin.

The receptionist turned up her nose when I said I was going to Aberfeldy and called it the "tourist way"... Well, hello, I am a tourist....

But, oh happy fault, as they say in the liturgy of Easter Saturday night...

Because when I got to Aberfeldy and had a lovely cup of coffee in the Breadalblane Bakery I got my map out and realised that if I wanted to go through Glencoe to get to Fort William, I actually was on the right road.

I followed the  River Tay all along the way,  then eventually I came to Loch Tay. It was such a beautiful drive, with all the autumn colours lining the way. Having lived in Perth for 25 years, I had forgotten how beautiful autumn can be.

All the way I followed water.. if not a Loch,  then a river was in view...

Words can't really describe the scenery....  maybe majestic, maybe grandiose, maybe superb, maybe outstanding, maybe just  Wow.....

All the way along I kept saying Wow to myself. I stopped maybe 20 times to  take more photos, but they can't really capture the grandeur of the  mountains that dipped down on to the road, or the cataracts and waterfalls that started miles high and gushed their way, trickling and rushing down the mountainside. I had forgotten what a wonderful sound a little brook makes  as it wends its way over rocks...

I'll include a few pics, but it's so hard to capture the grandeur of what I saw today.... Glencoe is magical...

It's really hard to describe the scenery I passed through today.... all I can say is that it was just beautiful and I  was really glad to have had the opportunity to experience it  all...

So tonight I''m safely ensconced in Fort William, staying with the Josephite Sisters,  Diane and June.
Diane is from Melbourne and  June is from NZ. Diane can remember my Aunty Lucy - Sr Xavier...

So, today I had another outstanding day... couldn't believe how wonderful the scenery was...

I have 2 nights here... so am looking forward to a bit of  quiet time, because my next stop is Edinburgh then I fly out for Dublin....

And, in case anyone is interested... I've just done two loads of washing...!!!! Thank you Jesus!!!

  1. Having travelled a very similar route in July, it is so lovely to see the autumn pics. I agree its hard to find the best word to describe how beautiful it is.

    1. Yes.. At times I wished I had a better camera, but even then it cannot do it justice. It's so magnificent.
