Dublin

Dublin

O'Connell St Dublin
Well, the first thing to report today is that I solved the Vegemite problem! On my journey today I found a Health food shop and they had some in stock. My heart is happy again!

The morning started off  nice and gently with a sleep-in and brekky (no vegemite!) then I  was ready for the day. My plan was to go into town and just potter around and that's what I ended up doing.

Mary gave me great instructions about how to get into town by bus. Even though I have the car, there is no way I would be driving into Dublin city.

The bus stop was opposite the local Catholic Church - and of course we're very much back into Catholic  country again...

The Church is called St Bernadette's (how appropriate!) and the size of the Churches has increased almost 10 fold from the little cosy British numbers!

New way of lighting candles- push the button and it lights up!

I caught the bus into town and it's a very easy way to get there. Started off my walking the length of O'Connell St ( the main street of Dublin)

As you can see the sun was shining at the start of the day. By mid morning it had clouded over and the rain started- not too bad but enough to be noticeable.

Mary had shown me earlier an ad for an exhibition related to the Terracotta warriors so I thought that might be worth a visit. It was Ok but the statues were all replicas. The exhibition was quite interesting, but I thought I was not using my time in Dublin for Dublin things! But I took quite a few pics that might come in handy if we ever study ancient China

After that little interlude it was back to walking the streets again!

I made my way back up O'Connell St to Grafton St which is  one of the main shopping drags in Dublin. The Christmas decorations are up already.

There was a Christmas market outside St Stephen's Green. Lots of food stalls and some knick-knack stalls.

Next stop was inside St Stephen's Green. What a lovely restful place it was - a real oasis in the city..

There was a lovely shopping centre just next to St  Stephens Green - called St Stephens Green shopping centre!!! It was a modern and contemporary shopping centre, but managed to avoid the soul-less feel of some we have in Australia. Had a nice cup of coffee and a good sit down there!

The next trick was to find my way back to the bus stop and I challenged myself to go a different way through some different streets, and although I wasn't always exactly sure where I was I knew I was in the right general direction.  So  I managed to get home safely to my warm Irish welcome once again!

So tomorrow I'm on the road again. The  only trouble is that there are floods around about and I'm not sure what I will encounter on the journey. Ah well, I've made it this far, and the Wild Atlantic Way awaits me.

I wonder what this next stage of the adventure will bring?
