Edinburgh to Dublin

Edinburgh to Dublin

Welcome to Ireland!

Well the day started ok. I got the car back to the airport rental place and said "Thank you Jesus" that it was still in one piece....

Went inside the airport and had a win because my case had to be no more than 20kg as the plane I was going on was a regional little number (see pic above!) I was very impressed with myself because I had done some re-arranging of my gear to make my case a little lighter and I made the target weight.

I finished off my tube of vegemite this morning, but was prepared with my new little jar, so  it was slightly heavy, so I put it in my hand luggage. I thought it might save a  few pounds...

 Bad mistake!!!!

All was going well until I hit customs and they took my little hand case aside and took out my jar of vegemite... it wasn't allowed on the plane with me! Eeeekkkkk... I had to give up my most precious possession. If I had packed it in my big case, it would've been fine... But alas and alack, I now have no vegemite.... I have a few spies out already looking for some, but my  life as I know it has changed irretrievably...

If anyone knows where  to buy Vegemite in Dublin, please let me know ASAP...

Then the plane was delayed, and delayed again and apparently there was an Orange weather alert in Dublin, so I was wondering what this flight was going to be like....

But it turned out ok. The flight was pretty good. Bit bumpy as we went into Dublin, but considering what might have been it was a good result.

Arrival  at Dublin airport
Paddy  (brother of my friend Bernadette) was there to meet me. It was so lovely to have someone actually be there when you arrive at a new place.

So we collected my next hire car - brand new Suzuki Swift- and Paddy guided me safely through the Dublin traffic to the house of Mary and Nicky (Mary is Bernadette's sister)

And I've made myself at home

It's lovely to be with friends again and to feel so at home. They have made me very welcome.
And when I arrived there was a big home cooked meal with real veggies waiting for me!

The Dublin weather could prove interesting; there has been flooding down the country and more rain is forecast tomorrow... but hey, this is Ireland.

And I'm very glad to be here...

  1. So sad for your loss, Moira. I recommend avoiding Marmite though because it may look like Vegemite that is where the similarity ends - it tastes revolting!!

    1. I agree Denise... Nothing replaces Vegemite, especially Marmite!!!
Luckily since then my problem has been solved...

  2. Ah.....Mrs T I have to disagree with you! As with Moira vegemite is very important to me and I too was without vegemite in both Scotland and Ireland recently! Although not perfect( like vegemite) a light smearing of marmite on your toast on the first day will help as it is better than the thought of no vegemite for the remainder of the holiday!! Give it a try Moira and tell us what you think!
    :) xx
    P.S. You look very relaxed.

    1. I have tried Marmite Anne and it was revolting! not even close. I think I would have plain toast rather than use Marmite...
