Bayeux to Honfleur

Bayeux to Honfleur

Well I bid a fond farewell to Bayeux this morning and prepared to hit the road again..

But before I did I had something of great importance to do....

I had run out of weetbix and those who know me well, know that I can't live without my weetbix and toast and vegemite everyday. So yesterday when I was returning from the D-Day tour, I spotted a big supermarket, so I braved the Bayeux traffic without Gaby Garmin and eventually found the shop.

And thank you Jesus - they did have Weetabix. I've been trying in many shops for a few days and at last I have found them... It doesn't take much to make me happy.

So on the journey I had the tales of the two "Ts".

Those who followed my last blog on 2009 might remember I had many stories to tell about toilets....
I've been very good this time and haven't mentioned them once, but I just have to today...

I was happily driving along the freeway and they have these nice little pull offs where you just diverge, do what you have to do, then pull straight back on the road.
Toilets at the road stop
Looks lovely doesn't it - nice trees etc....

But, I couldn't believe it when I went in - I had to take a picture of it... In this day and age and in Europe, this is what I saw...

Stand up toilet
You had to stand on the two side bits and do what you had to do...
all I could think of was Mum saying "just hover"....
The pic doesn't really capture it well, but it was a challenge - trust me!!!

Have to admit the standard of toilets over here isn't that flash.... Maybe visitors to Australia might think ours are a bit dodgy too if they only used public toilets...

Anyway, the second "T" was the tolls...
Having experienced a certain amount of trauma last time I went through the tolls, I was a bit worried that I could find the right one to go through with cash, as I have discovered my Aussie MasterCard won't work in their system as it requires a pin.

So, the first lot of tolls came up and I went really slowly (and Noreen at Angers advised to look for the one with the green light).  And... I found the right one and she took my cash and gave me change....  Yee haa I was on a roll here

Pride cometh before the fall....

At the next toll I looked for the green light and went forward, but alas an alack... they apparently all had green lights and this was the Credit card one again... eeeekkkkk!!!!
But there is a God looking after me somewhere, because there was no-one immediately behind me, so I was able to back out and pull right over while I had a good look to see which one I should've gone through.

There are so many little challenges to this driving in Europe. I might just begin to start to master them and it will be time to give my car back....

The rest of the journey was quite pleasant and Gaby Garmin led me straight to my hotel, which is very comfy and clean!

I will start a new post to describe this beautiful place, because it is worth more than a few words.

Thank you for reading my tales of the 2 "Ts" - kept me amused to write it!!!
