Bayeux Day 2

Bayeux Day 2

Bayeux Museum where the  Tapestry is housed

One of the major reasons  I came to Bayeux was to see the tapestry which depicts the Battle of Hastings. So this morning I walked into town and  went to the museum which depicts the tapestry, And it was fantastic. We weren't allowed to take pics inside but the pic above shows the outside of the museum where the tapestry is housed. It was so good... I really enjoyed my few hours there. I started with audio tour which explains all the different parts of the tapestry as I viewed it, then I went to the cinema which had a movie explaining how it all came into being. It was so graphic and the commentary really explained it so well. They also had a floor dedicated to explaining all about Norman times and that was very informative as well. It was well worth the trip to see the tapestry alone!

So after I finished that I went over to the Notre Dame Cathedral. It was amazing... I know France is full of Churches, but there was something very special about this Cathedral.

I started doing a lap of the Cathedral, as you do, then I found my candles and I have to admit I opted for the 1 Euro version in front of Our Lady of Lourdes

But as I went around I discovered  various statues -  one of which I recognized..
Our Lady of Mercy
So, even though I have been immersed in Good Shepherd-ness of late, my Mercy-ness came to the fore, and I bought a 2 euro candle to pray for all my Mercy (past and present) colleagues. Couldn't resist the opportunity....

Expensive visit...!!

There was something very majestic about this Cathedral.. something that really showed the presence  of God..

Notre Dame Cathedral Bayeux

St Anthony- one of my favourite saints when I lose something....

The whole town of Bayeux and the district of Normandy is very conscious of its history and the role the war played in this area..

After my Tapestry and Cathedral visit, it was time to recover, so as you do, it was coffee time..

Next thing on the agenda was my trip that was booked for the D-Day beaches, but I think I might make another post for that...
